Regenerative Farming in Action: The partnership between RegenZ and Goedgedacht

At Goedgedacht Farm in the Swartland region of the Western Cape, farming is about building sustainable communities, educating small-scale farmers, and ensuring a better future for the next generation. With the support of RegenZ and our innovative Beyond product range, Goedgedacht is embracing regenerative agriculture to improve soil health, increase yields, and create new economic opportunities.

One of the core goals of Goedgedacht’s expansion is to support smallholder farmers in Swartland by equipping them with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed. In trialling RegenZ’s products and studying their effects, the farm is developing insights that can be shared with local farmers, helping them integrate into mainstream agriculture and improve profitability.

The Goedgedacht Farm team, led by farm manager Pieter Brand, is passionate about creating a space where farmers and visitors can learn, grow, and connect. By adopting our Beyond range, including Beyond PSP Fertiliser, PopUp, RealCal, and SeaBrix, they’re producing healthier crops and enhancing the long-term sustainability of their land.

Pumpkins, butternuts, and watermelons have been thriving under this new approach, proving that regenerative farming techniques can lead to resilient and abundant harvests. The Goedgedacht Events Olive Peace Grove is home to flourishing olive trees after just three years, having moved to Zylem and RegenZ’s product range in the last year.

Pieter explains, “This vegetable garden is an income stream, but it’s also a training opportunity for small-scale farmers. By learning how to apply products like PopUp, Sea Brix, and RealCal, we’re able to pass this knowledge along to our community, helping them farm more efficiently and sustainably.”

Innovation and transformation

Regenerative agriculture shouldn’t only be about working harder, it’s about working smarter. At Goedgedacht, worm farms play a key role in maintaining soil health. With red wigglers as their underground workforce, the team is producing rich, nutrient-dense compost (affectionately known as “black gold”) that naturally enriches the soil and boosts crop production.

Under RegenZ’s guidance, Pieter has also been experimenting with valor peanut tuber potatoes, an exciting initiative aimed at improving food security and economic prospects for local farmers. The potatoes were first raised in seedling trays before being transplanted into deep bags to encourage multiplication, a method designed to maximise yield and sustainability.

With RegenZ’s Beyond range and the dedication of the Goedgedacht team, we’re proving that sustainable farming isn’t just a buzzword, but has the potential to change people’s lives. Stay tuned for more updates, and visit goedgedacht.org to learn more about their incredible work. And if you visit the farm, don’t forget to stop by the on-site café for a coffee and a snack while taking in the beautiful surroundings!

About the Goedgedacht Trust

Established in 1993, the Goedgedacht Trust is dedicated to transforming disadvantaged rural communities in the West Coast region of the Western Cape. Through its flagship Path Onto Prosperity (POP) Program, the Trust provides critical support for children from infancy to adulthood, helping break cycles of poverty and foster sustainable development. The Goedgedacht Rural Academy, based on the farm, plays a key role in integrating education with hands-on agricultural experience.
